- Project Type Tables
This beautifully figured table of Oregon Walnut is a unique piece in several ways. It is rare that one finds a perfectly proportioned single board with two natural edges. It was this combination of proportion and beauty that spoke “coffee table” as I appraised it originally. Wanting to preserve its entire character as fully as possible, I hand-planed and sanded it, removing the least amount of wood. An additional very unique feature is in the design of the bowed legs. They are attached to the skirt rather like leaf springs, and are easily adjusted to allow for any twist in the single board or unevenness of floor. As the leg assembly was entirely original, I was somewhat concerned about the “strength factor”. My fears were completely removed when a lady of ample proportion mistook it for a bench and plunked herself squarely in the middle of it. It passed the “worst case scenario” stress test with flying colors.
